‘I Saw Her Only Yesterday,’  by VONIGA, the Emmy nominated Portland, OR based musical duo of accordionist Courtney Von Drehle and percussionist Joe Janiga, team up with modern dancer Margretta Hansen for a sound/dance aperitif. Hansen’s movement acts as a non-verbal narrator to the sweet and sorrowful music of these two film composers who are in town performing with Klezmocracy as part of the DoJump show at the New Victory Theater. www.voniga.com

‘Come Sit Stay’ (2011)  A man confuses his girlfriend for a dog, expecting loyalty and obedience. In this short film written and directed by JODY OBERFELDER, playfulness turn to violence and fantasy leaves questions as to who is man’s best friend. Editing by Daniel Garcia, cinematography by Clarrissa de los Reyes, and music composed by Brendan Berry, with lyrics by Jody Oberfelder sung by Tine Kndermann and David Starrelswww.jodyoberfelder.com

A debut night:  MARK NILSEN will narrate and sing a condensed version from ‘Wizard of Sand’ an adaptation of  L. Frank Baum’s masterpiece, The Wizard of Oz..  Our story begins on the eve of Diggidy; an itinerant laborer leaving for America on a 10 day trek through the desert toward Southern California to pick water melons, in hopes of meeting the Wizard of Sand.  Come catch the colorful adventure! www.nycsewer.com

CHRIS COCHRANE will be playing first his show in NY since returning from performing THEM with Ishmael Houston-Jones, Dennis Cooper and some amazing dancers at the Pompidou Center in Paris. He’ll be playing guitar and singing in some combination of noise and song. http://www.chriscochrane.net

TANYA GAGNE (aka T-Pow!) brings her latest music-making-flying-contraption, the first Composition in a series: Beat feet! ONWARDS + UPWARDS.  Tanya is one half of the infamous Wau Wau Sisters, member of Chica Vas, founder & director of the Trapeze Loft & Big Sky Works, veteran of Circus Amok, the Bindlestiff Family Circus, LAVA & La Soiree, & always excited to share the stage w/Vic Thrill & Bamiam.tv.  Team Spirit Animal Squad, w/Suzanne Rogaleski (of Lone Wolf & Cub), will be returning to Big Sky Works this year. www.tanyagagne.com

MEGAN HANLEY and LAURA VILLAVERDE present ‘Sin Fronteira,’ a short theatrical piece about precocity and borders, featuring two Minute Men waiting for someone like Godot on the Texas/Mexico border, exploring inter-linguistic poetry.  These two artists met through extensive training with the SITI company, lead by the work of Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki.www.meganhanley.weebly.com

For tonight’s show, HAROLD MOELLER will be giving a motivational speech on the ‘Evils of Tobacco’.  We’ve loved him in the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus, the Bindelstiff Variety Show, with Britney Spears on her ‘CIRCUS’ tour, on cruise ships, theme parks, and in his appearances Off Broadway. Harold performs as a clown, juggler, lasso artist, cyr wheelist (the Human Spoke), unicycler, and a FUNNY face maker.

MAJA RAJENOVICH presents a small collection of dance films and live performances from her ‘Comic Series: Love Letters to Brooklyn and the Volcano’.  A flock of birds will be enlisted to accompany the solo flight, based on research that shows a bird travels more swiftly en masse. www.majarajenovich.com

THE INDECENT, BIG NILS + TOY SUGAR

  • w/ DJ Keili (WFMU) + Bamiam.tv

THE INDECENT, BIG NILS and TOY SUGAR rocks BIG SKY WORKS with special guest DJ KEILI  and BAMIAM.TV

Jan 14th, 2012 BIG SKY WORKS presents an evening of all original music with three of the hottest teen rock bands in the country along with special guest DJ KEILI from Beastin’ the Airwaves on WFMU Radio and mind bending visuals from BAMIAM.TV

THE INDECENT make music that is aggressive, subtle, poetic, profane, and quite often all these things at once. Influenced by Patti Smith, the Gits, the Velvet Underground, Barrett’s Floyd, and many Seattle-type things, the Indecent are Emily Brout (vocals), Madeline Brout (bass), Bo Brout (guitar), all from New York City, and Windsor, Ontario’s Nicholas Burrows on drums. The group self-released their first album, Her Screwed Up Head, in the fall of 2010, and will release their major label debut on Warner Bros Records this coming spring, produced by Rob Cavallo.

BIG NILS is a Western Mass. Freewheelin’ punk band that enjoys getting band burgers (and each other). They are named after a very tall ex punk rocker named Nils who has a rock n’ roll tattoo and has been arrested for stealing and setting buildings on fire. They are currently working on putting out “Siblings” on cassette tape and hopefully, in the future on vinyl. Some fun band activities include making underwear, taking band trips to play shows in Sen’s Cadillac and making noise in Coco’s basement.

TOY SUGAR is NYC’s all girl teen band-a little sweet, a little rebellious and a whole lotta’ talented! They are fans of sweeping guitars, crooning vocals, and pounding drums. Their unique sound plays with old school rock n’ roll, touches of punk and indie rock. They have played many wonderful venues in NYC and especially love Big Sky Works, which is a second home to these rockers!

DJ KEILI- WFMU darling and host of Beastin’ The Airwaves! with Keili since 2008, DJ Keili has been spinning on the air and in the club since the age of 15. She’s got her finger on the pulse of the All Ages Indie Music movement, bringing it to events at the finest venues and smallest dives in New York City and the world.

B.A MIALE aka BAMiAM.TV is a not only an award winning music video director, but a rare breed of video artist who mashes up her playfully psychedelic visuals in real time on a keytar.
